Home Gym Tips

On this site, we give you several tips and recommendations on where to go to get high-quality home gym equipment and resources. Here are some more tips, specific to certain types of home gym machines.

Elliptical Trainer Tips

Elliptical trainers are low-impact, as they allow you to move in a walking / running motion without your feet leaving the pedals. It’s a great cardio workout. Know that most elliptical trainers are electric, but that’s usually just to power the monitors – the actual movement is powered by your feet and to some degree your arms.

* If you want to use your elliptical in forward or reverse motions, procure one that will do both.

* Most elliptical trainers include moving handles, but you can find some with stationary ones if that’s your preference.

* Know your stride length and make sure that the elliptical that you’ve got your sites on can accommodate yours. Better yet, newer models have adjustable stride lengths, and studies show that adjusting your stride length can actually burn up more calories.

Strength Training Machine Tips

Abs machines should be adjustable to your body, which helps avoid injuries. Using an abs machine alone will not burn fat, but it will help you tone muscles. If you’d like to burn fat, combine the abs workout with a cardio workout.

Pilates exercise equipment is great if you need to add flexibility training to your routine, and could be the perfect thing to round out your home gym set up.

Weights machines help you add strength to specific muscle groups. Sure, dumbbell sets are pretty versatile, but a weight machine gives you even more weight training options. Look for an adjustable bench, and a variety of exercises to work each muscle grouping. Also, you want to make sure that there’s enough weight included to make your workouts as effective as you want them to be. Know that you can find machines with either stacked weights or elastic bands – both function in the same way of creating resistance. Also, some weight machines can fold up easily for quick storage.
